Prairie Expert Jaime Gonzalez to Speak at Godwin Park Community Center

LOCATION CHANGE  This talk was published in the Westbury Crier as taking place at the Platou Center.  Please note that it is at Godwin Park Community Center.  This is an excellent chance to see the renovation to the center and to hear a very interesting speaker whose expertise is becoming well known in Houston.

Development is fast taking away open land that hosts important native plants and wildlife. Learn about the many efforts in the Houston area to value and restore pockets of prairie.

On Wednesday, February 9 at 10 a.m. at the newly renovated Godwin Park Community Center , 5101 Rutherglen, noted educator Jaime Gonzalez will speak about the work being done in Hermann Park , at Kolter Elementary (and other schools) and at the Katy Prairie to develop demonstration areas of prairie to help people realize the rich natural habitat found in grasslands.

Jaime Gonzalez is the Educational Outreach Director for the Katy Prairie Conservancy, President of the Coastal Prairie Partnership, and a member of the faculty of the University of Houston School of  Education.  He is also a member of the Texas Children in Nature Coalition.  This event is sponsored by Kolter Elementary Science Department and Bouquettes Garden Club.
